When we moved into our Edwardian house some five years ago, we were not aware of any paranormal activity. Recently however, we've become increasingly suspicious that we may be sharing our home with some unwelcome guests.
One night in December, I was stood on the landing, having just stepped out of the bathroom, when I was overcome by a sensation of shock and utter cold. Something caught my eye, and as I turned to face the open bedroom I saw the figure of what looked like a young woman in her early twenties. The woman was very pretty, with long, dark hair, and wearing a long dress. She had an expression of sadness on her face, as suddenly as she had appeared she vanished. There was nothing threatening about this woman, but I was nonetheless chilled by this ghostly encounter.
The sound of phantom footsteps seems to be a common occurrence in our house, commented on by everyone in the family. My mother said she heard somebody walking upstairs in the dead of night, and recently when I was stood in the kitchen with my back facing the door, I heard someone approaching me, but turned to find no one there.
I have noticed how my dog often sits in the living room, staring at the wall with her hackles raised, snarling in a threatening manner. She'll refuse to go upstairs, and one time when I tried to get her to stay in my bedroom, she whined and howled so desperately that I had to let her out.
I am still a sceptic and look for every rational explanations for all the paranormal phenomena I have experienced.
