Five years ago, in my first year of secondary school I experienced an encounter with the paranormal that left my friend and i shaken. Firstly, our school is quite old, around 130 years, and it used to be an all boys boarding school. there have been stories of ghosts and strange sightings, but nothing that we had ever believed, however it has always had an eerie feel to it.
One day a few friends and I were playing hide and seek in one of the buildings. I was alone with one of my friends and we were watching out for the others, getting ready to run if they came into sight. We were on the second floor near the staircase peering between the banisters into the corridor below, expecting to see someone run through the doors below towards the stairs.
I then saw a large figure in what looked like a long black cloak come from one side of the corridor towards the other, it was odd, seeing as there was no door on either the side it had came from nor the side it headed towards. I couldn't move, I just stared at it wondering who it was. it then turned its head and looked straight at me but i could see no facial features due to its hood, except its eyes which looked sunken into its face. Time seemed to stand still as it stared at me and I couldn't move from fear. Suddenly it ran off and then disappeared looking like it had walked through the wall.
I had not believed what I had seen but I turned to my friend who was gazing in horror and disbelief at where the figure had been. I casually asked if she had seen anyone not wanting to hint that I had seen anything odd, when she started talking about what she could describe as a cloaked figure. She then added that it had looked towards us and I knew she had seen what I had seen and the reality sunk in.
We went off, literally shaking, to find our friends and tell them about our paranormal encounter and they thought that we had fabricated the whole thing. they then started to believe us seeing how shaken we were. We joked around with the idea that it may have been death himself and we had cleverly outwitted him, but the image of the figure still haunts us. We have experienced nothing since then but sometimes when i am walking throughout the school alone I get the feeling that I am being watched, as does my friend.
