I lived in a small village called Barnby in the Willows near Newark on Trent until the late 90s. The house I shared with my parents was a large old farmhouse dating back to the 1800s.
Whilst living in the house I experienced several strange incidences. These occurred in primarily in the attic. The attic's made an L shape with the 1st room making the bottom of the L, and the rest forming the upright of the L.
Access to the attics was via a wooden stairs which led directly into the first attic room with an access door into the second then third and fourth attic rooms. I believe these rooms may have been used by domestic staff at one stage or another. There was no lighting in the attics rooms. The second attic room had a door into a small room that was sandwiched between it and the fourth room.
I would often go into the attic's to store or pick up some item over the years, and during those times I would experience an intense feeling of dread, malevolence, almost hatred and of not being welcome in that second room. The feeling always emanated from above the exposed ceiling rafters, during the day and or night, but not all the time. It was a horrible feeling that made me want to leave the attic as fast as possible, and left me with a horrible cold creeping feeling going up and down my back.
The rest of the house was not so frightening although it could have its moments. When I left my parents to move away, I was asked to house sit for them with my partner one warm summer's weekend. One morning I got up to let the dogs out and prepare breakfast and unknown to me, my partner went exploring. She told me years later, about what she experienced.
Being of a curious nature, she went into the attics when I was preparing breakfast and initially thought what a wonderful find. But when she entered the second attic room, and not knowing what I'd experienced in the past, she said she felt as though something very black, oppressive and extremely malevolent was in that room and did not want her there. So much so, that when she made a rapid exit, she recalls actually looking at where this "thing" was although it wasn't visible (i.e. above the rafters) and apologised for having walked in to that room. As I said, this never came to light until a chance discussion about that old house many years later.
A year or so after that incident, again I went back to my parent's house to feed and walk their dogs (as they were out for the day). Usually, I could walk around the house day or night without fear, but on this occasion, I had the same feeling walking into the house that I used to experience when in the attic a feeling of not being welcome. My stay with the dogs was very short.
A year later, my parents moved out of the house. I haven't named the house, because the new owners were not informed of what was experienced in the attics and quite honestly I would not like disturb their "peace" in the house.
